Description
As educators, our commitment to enriching the educational landscape for every student is fundamental. This June, the Palm Beach County School District is proud to host a transformative three-day workshop aimed at elevating African Diasporic learners by innovating teaching methods and educational experiences. The event, set to take place from June 12-14, 2024, at Palm Beach Lakes High School, promises to be a groundbreaking occasion for educators looking to enhance their teaching practices in line with Florida's educational requirements and beyond.
Why Attend?
The Summer Institute is designed not just to fulfill the mandate of integrating African American Studies as outlined in Florida Statute 1003.42(h), but to breathe life into these teachings through dynamic, practical strategies that can be seamlessly woven into core learning areas. By attending, educators will gain invaluable tools and insights to help all students appreciate and understand the rich cultural heritage and contributions of the African Diaspora in Palm Beach County and beyond.
What to Expect?
Participants will be treated to a series of enriching presentations and performances from esteemed groups such as the Spady Cultural Heritage Museum, the Palm Beach County African American Oral History Project, the African American Research Library and Cultural Center of Palm Beach County, and many more. These sessions are tailored to inspire and equip educators with the knowledge and skills necessary to transform their classrooms into environments where cultural diversity and historical accuracy flourish.
Special Highlights
- Networking Opportunities: Connect with fellow educators and leading experts in African Diasporic studies.
- Educational Performances: Experience powerful performances by groups like Soul Movement and Faith's Place Center for Education.
